Lots, Parts and the Most Misunderstood Symbols in the Birth Chart
The Lots, also known as Arabic Parts, were initially referred to as Arabic due to Ptolemy’s influence, an outlier in the Hellenistic astrology tradition. In actuality, their use dates back much further in history, as revealed in recent translations of ancient texts. Dorotheus and Vettius Valens used the Lots, for example, suggesting that they were not Arabic innovations after all.
The term “Lot” comes from the random casting of lots, which pertains to fortune or luck. It refers to the type of luck that the Gods dealt you, such as where you were born, your gender, your parents, and the type of body you were given. The two main Lots used in astrology are the Lot of Fortune and the Lot of Daimon (or Spirit), which involve tying together the placement of the Ascendant, Sun, and Moon. The Lot of Fortune represents physical well-being, acquisition of goods, and character, while the Lot of Daimon pertains to intentionality, calling and reputation.
Even the gods cast lots to make decisions! According to Ancient Greek mythology, the dividing up of the world between Zeus, Poseidon and Hades were made by casting lots. In Babylonian mythology, Anu, Enki and Enlil were allocated their kingdoms of heaven, water and earth by lot.
So… Why have we started to ignore (or worse, misinterpret) the Lots in astrology today?
I have a theory that it’s because the Lots are abstract, not based in physical space or even time – they are geometrical places that you only get from casting an astrological chart.
Regardless, my research and astrological practice has shown me that the Lots reveal a great deal to us – if we give these mysterious points a chance.

When is the Masterclass?
This Masterclass is being taught LIVE on Wednesday June 28th 2023 at 7pm BST / 2pm EST / 10am PST.
Is this a live training, and will it be recorded?
Yes this is a LIVE online training which will be held on Zoom. You will be sent the recording within 24 hours of the class, so if you can’t make it you will still get access to all the information and resources.
How long is the Masterclass?
I aim to be finished with the core teaching content within 90 minutes, with up to half an hour for additional questions and astro chat!
